Every year, I (im)patiently wait for the chirping of birds, sunlight steaming through my window at 6 am, long days, and hazy evenings. These thoughts get me through the long and seemingly harsh winter. Alas, this year, I have seen all but a few fleeting glimpses of these things I so dearly treasure. Why, nature, must you deprive my body and soul of these precious moments?
Today is yet another gloomy day in Halifax, a bit muggy, with a ceiling of depressing grey clouds that seem to go on infinitely. I long for days of laying on the beach, drink in hand, surrounded by my amazing friends and family. Floating in the Northumberland Strait, eating ice cream on the side of the road, putting my shoes away for the summer...these thoughts are what keep me going on days like today.
On a much happier note, I have a job! That's right folks, I have found employment in this dismal economic time. My poor sister, on the other hand, has been searching for months. Some people just can't catch a break. For the past month, I've had the pleasure of wandering around the city, knocking on doors to "remind" people to fill out their census. Oh yes - I'm one of those annoying people who disturb you right as you're about to have your dinner, run off to work, or at some other wildly inconvenient time. And I'm pretty good at it too. I've also started working for a former professor as a Research Assistant, transcribing some interviews. Pretty sweet set-up. I hope I can make it last until September.
Speaking of September...I applied to a Masters program! I'm thrilled. I realized that if I committed to 2 years of a B.Ed. in Elementary Education, I may very well lose my mind. As much as I love to teach, children are not my strong suit. Frankly, I find them exhausting. Super fun, but exhausting. I would prefer not to burn out in 5 years, so adults are the way to go! Because I applied so last minute (I sent everything in last week), I might hear back in the next week or two. Cross your fingers for me. Hell, you can even say a prayer if you think that will work. Just send good vibes!
