The Great Staycation - Day One

That's right folks; today was Day One of my grand staycation, courtesy of some fabulous friends and a flexible work schedule. I'm officially off until Monday and I couldn't be more thrilled. As I may or may not have mentioned (I have no short-term memory anymore), I've been battling a springtime cold since last week which I was afraid would infiltrate my grand plans for fun in the sun. While I'm not quite as manic as I would normally be given the time of year/circumstances, all in all I think I'm doing alright.

I woke early this morning (of course - only when I'm on vacation do I jump out of bed at 7 am), puttered around a bit, packed a backpack and hoofed it to my sister's. We recently went in on a CSA share together, and I had some greens that I knew I wouldn't use before their expiration date (for more information on the CSA I belong to, go to www.taprootfarms.ca). I intended only to pop in, do the drop, and carry on to the North End to resume my house-sitting duties - intended. I decided to stay for a bit, after noticing Settlers of Catan atop a bookshelf. Then we decided to go to Subway, because we couldn't play on an empty stomach (duh). After stuffing our little faces and watching the Season 1 finale of Girls, we quickly lost our motivation to set up the game and ended up sitting around for an hour or so, not doing much of anything. Erin's roommate had to work later in the afternoon, so we decided not to bother starting a game that probably couldn't be finished in the time allotted. Instead, we hatched a plan to walk to The Bargain! Shop, Erin's employer-du-jour, to take advantage of the closing sale. I ended up buying a bunch of useless junk - an alarm clock with an iPod dock, a bunch of different cards for various occasions, a citronella candle, wool socks, and a smattering of candy. (After writing that down, I realize that I still shop the way I did when I was 6 - whatever catches my attention at that moment, I buy it. Especially if it's discounted. I don't even care what it is, as long as it's on sale).

Now I'm back at the Munchkin House, contemplating my next meal, and what tomorrow will bring. I'm very excited to meet up with an old friend who happens to live one street over from the Munchkin House. We plan to power-walk all over this city, picnic, frolic...in her words, paint the town red. The owners of the Munchkin House fly in late tomorrow night from Cuba, so Friday I will be back to my usual routine of procrastination and puttering. Perhaps I'll start spring cleaning? Maybe head home for a night or two? Stay tuned!
